-
Clean the Mounting Hole: Before inserting the new sensor, thoroughly clean the area around the mounting hole on the crankcase. Ensure no grit or old oil drops inside the engine when the old sensor is removed.
-
Inspect the Drive Pin: Check the speedometer drive pin (linkage) inside the engine. If the pin is rounded or broken, the new sensor won't spin, and the speedometer will still show zero.
-
O-Ring Lubrication: Apply a small amount of clean engine oil to the new O-ring before installation. This helps the sensor slide into place without pinching or tearing the seal.
-
Check the Harness Routing: Route the wire exactly as the original was positioned. Keep it away from moving parts (like the chain) and high-heat areas (like the exhaust headers) to prevent melting.
-
Electrical Connection: Ensure the connector clicks firmly into the main wiring harness. We recommend using dielectric grease in the plug to prevent moisture from causing erratic speed readings.
Fit for following Honda Motorcycle
Shadow 750 VT750CD 2001
Shadow 750 VT750CD2 2001
Shadow 750 VT750CDA/B/C/D 2002-2003
Shadow Spirit 750 VT750DC 2001-2002
Shadow Spirit 750 VT750DCA/DCB 2003-2007
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
| Speedometer Reads 0 | Broken drive pin or loose plug. | Check the mechanical pin inside the engine case. Ensure the electrical connector is fully seated and pins aren't bent. |
| Jumping/Erratic Needle | Dirty connection or magnetic interference. | Clean the sensor plug with contact cleaner. Check for any metal shavings stuck to the magnetic tip of the sensor. |
| Oil Leak at Sensor Base | Damaged or dry O-ring. | Inspect the O-ring for nicks. Ensure the mounting bolt is tightened to the correct torque (not over-tightened). |
| Speedo Works Only at High Speeds | Weak sensor signal or internal wear. | This usually indicates the sensor is failing internally. Replacing the unit with this new sensor should resolve the issue. |
| No Backlight/Power | Blown fuse or faulty gauge. | If the speedometer doesn't light up at all, check the bike's main fuse box before assuming the sensor is the only problem. |
