-
Clean the Carrier Housing: Before sliding the new axle in, thoroughly clean the inside of the rear bearing carrier. Remove any old sand, grit, or rusted metal flakes from the previous axle.
-
Grease the Splines: Use a high-quality Molybdenum grease on the axle splines where they engage with the wheel hubs and the brake drum. This prevents rust and ensures the hubs don't get seized to the axle.
-
Inspect Rear Bearings: This is the perfect time to check your rear axle bearings. If the bearings have any "play" or feel gritty when you turn them by hand, replace them now to avoid damaging your new axle.
-
Proper Torque: Always tighten the large axle nuts to the manufacturer's specified torque. Under-tightened nuts will allow the hub to wobble and eventually strip the splines on your new axle.
-
Safety First: Don't forget to install a new cotter pin or locking clip once the axle nut is tightened. Never reuse an old pin on a high-speed rotating component.

TRX250X 2009-2024
Sportrax 250 TRX250EX 2001-2008
š Troubleshooting Guide
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
| Rear Wheel Wobble | Bent axle or loose wheel hub. | Jack up the ATV and spin the wheels. If the wheel rim wobbles but the hub is tight, the axle is likely bent. |
| Chain Keeps Loosening | Bent axle causing misalignment. | A slightly bent axle will put uneven tension on the chain. If your chain tension fluctuates as you roll the bike, inspect the axle straightness. |
| Grinding Noise from Rear | Worn axle carrier bearings. | The axle itself doesn't make noise, but if the bearings are dry or broken, they will grind against the axle shaft. Replace bearings immediately. |
| Hub Won't Slide On | Burrs on splines or rust. | Inspect the splines on the axle and inside the hub. Lightly file down any burrs. Never use a heavy sledgehammer to force the hub on. |
| Stripped Splines | Loose axle nut. | If the hub spins but the axle doesn't, the splines are stripped. This is usually caused by riding with a loose axle nut for too long. |
