🛠️ Installation Tips
-
Clean the Drum Interior: Before installing the new plate, use brake cleaner to remove all dirt, old grease, and rust from the inside of the rear brake drum.
-
Lubricate the Camshaft: Apply a generous amount of waterproof marine-grade grease to the brake camshaft (pivot bolt) where it passes through the panel. This is crucial for preventing the brakes from "sticking" in the future.
-
Check the Dust Seal: Ensure the rubber dust seal on the camshaft is properly seated. This seal is the first line of defense against mud and water entering the brake housing.
-
Spring Positioning: When installing the brake shoes (not included) onto the new panel, ensure the return springs are fully hooked. Test the cam movement by hand to see if the shoes expand and retract smoothly.
-
Align the Wear Indicator: When attaching the external brake arm to the camshaft, align it so the wear indicator points to the correct starting position.
-
Final Adjustment: Adjust the brake cable wing nuts until you feel slight resistance, then back off half a turn to ensure the brakes don't drag while riding.

🔍 Troubleshooting Guide
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
| Brake Lever Won't Return | Dry or seized camshaft. | Remove the camshaft, clean any corrosion, and re-grease. Check if the return spring on the brake arm is broken. |
| Squealing Noise | Dust or debris inside the panel. | Remove the drum and blow out any dust. Ensure the panel is seated flush against the axle housing to prevent debris entry. |
| Brakes Dragging | Over-tightened cable or weak springs. | Loosen the cable adjustment. If the shoes don't retract, replace the return springs or check for binding on the camshaft. |
| Brake Panel Shakes | Loose mounting bolts or worn axle. | Double-check that all mounting bolts are torqued to spec. Inspect the axle housing for wear where the panel seats. |
| Weak Braking Power | Camshaft not fully rotating. | Ensure the external brake arm is splined correctly onto the camshaft and that the cable has full travel. |
