🛠️ Installation Tips
-
Clean the Housing: Before installation, thoroughly clean the inside of the rear axle housing. Remove any metal shavings or debris left by the old unit to prevent damage to the new gears.
-
Lubricate Splines: Apply a high-quality molybdenum grease to the axle splines and drive shaft before assembly for smooth operation and to prevent rust.
-
Refill Gear Oil (CRITICAL): The unit is shipped without gear oil or with only a small amount of anti-rust oil. You must fill it with the recommended gear oil (typically SAE 80W-90) to the proper level before the first ride.
-
Check Axle Seals: We highly recommend inspecting and, if necessary, replacing your outer axle seals and bearings at the same time to ensure a completely leak-free system.
-
Torque Pattern: Tighten all mounting bolts in a criss-cross (star) pattern to the manufacturer's specified torque to ensure even pressure on the casing.
-
Break-in Period: Avoid heavy towing or high-speed operation for the first 5-10 hours of use to allow the new gears to mesh and "seat" properly.
Fit for Honda ATV:
FourTrax 300 2x4 TRX300 1988-2000
FourTrax 300 4x4 TRX300FW 1988-2000
Notice: Not Compatible With TRX300EX Sportrax Edition
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
| Whining or Grinding Noise | Low gear oil level or worn external axle bearings. | Check and refill gear oil immediately. Inspect the outer axle bearings; often the noise originates there rather than inside the differential. |
| Oil Leaking from Seals | Damaged oil seals or a clogged vent tube. | Replace the input or axle seals. Check that the breather/vent tube is clear; pressure build-up from a clog can force oil past the seals. |
| Wheels Not Turning | Stripped axle splines or drive shaft coupler failure. | Remove the axle and inspect the splines. If the splines on your axle are worn down, the new differential will not be able to engage and turn the wheels. |
| Differential Binding/Stiffness | Incorrect oil viscosity or debris in the housing. | Use only high-quality 80W-90 gear oil. If you find metal flakes in the oil, flush the housing completely to remove contaminants. |
| Excessive Vibration | Loose mounting bolts or misaligned drive shaft. | Re-check all mounting hardware and ensure the drive shaft is properly seated and aligned with the input shaft. |
