🛠️ Installation Tips
-
Spline Inspection: Before sliding the new hub onto the axle, inspect your CV Axle splines. If the old hub was "slipping," it may have rounded off the axle splines. Installing a new hub on a damaged axle will result in the new hub stripping out almost immediately.
-
Anti-Seize Lubricant: Apply a small amount of anti-seize to the axle splines before installation. This prevents the steel axle from "bonding" to the hub over time due to moisture and mud, making future removals much easier.
-
The "Stake" Nut: Yamaha uses a large axle nut that must be "staked" (dented) into the keyway of the axle after tightening. Always use a new axle nut and ensure it is torqued to approximately 190 lb-ft (refer to your specific service manual) before staking.
-
Brake Rotor Transfer: When moving your brake rotor to the new hub, use a drop of Blue Threadlocker on the mounting bolts. These bolts are subject to high vibration and can back out, causing catastrophic brake failure.
-
Wheel Stud Check: Ensure the wheel studs are fully seated. After the first 10-15 miles of riding, re-torque your lug nuts, as the new hub and studs may "settle" slightly.
🔍 Troubleshooting Guide
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
| "Clicking" During Takeoff | Worn internal hub splines. | If you hear a click when the ATV starts moving, the splines are likely loose on the axle. Replace the hub to prevent stripping the axle itself. |
| Wheel Wobble | Bent hub flange or bad bearing. | Jack up the ATV and spin the wheel. If the tire "wobbles" but the axle is straight, the hub flange is likely bent from a previous impact with a rock or stump. |
| Stripped Lug Nut Stud | Over-torqued lug nuts. | If a stud spins in the hub, the hub's mounting hole is wallowed out. It is safer to replace the entire hub than to attempt to weld a stud in place. |
| Grinding Noise | Seized wheel bearing. | While the hub is off, check the Wheel Bearing inside the knuckle. If the bearing is dry or gritty, replace it alongside the hub to prevent heat damage to the new part. |
| Loose Axle Nut | Missing/failed stake or cotter pin. | If the hub feels loose side-to-side, the axle nut has backed off. Tighten to spec and ensure the locking mechanism is properly engaged. |
