🛠️ Installation TipsÂ
-
Clean Before Opening: Before removing the old drums and cylinders, use brake cleaner to remove all dust and mud. This prevents contaminants from entering the hydraulic system.
-
Lubricate Backing Plate: Apply a tiny amount of high-temp brake grease to the contact points where the brake shoes touch the backing plate. This prevents squeaking and ensures smooth shoe movement.
-
Cylinder Alignment: When installing the new wheel cylinders, ensure the push rods are properly seated against the brake shoes.
-
Bleeding the System: This is a complete kit replacement, meaning there will be a lot of air in the lines. Bleed the brakes starting from the wheel furthest from the master cylinder (usually the rear right) and work your way closer.
-
Drum Inspection: Check your brake drums for deep grooves or "out-of-round" wear. For the best performance, consider having the drums turned (resurfaced) or replaced if they are heavily damaged.
-
Don't Mix Fluids: Use only fresh DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid as specified by Kawasaki. Never reuse old fluid drained during the bleeding process.

🔍 Troubleshooting Guide
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
| Spongy Brake Pedal | Air still trapped in the brake lines. | Re-bleed the system. Ensure the master cylinder reservoir never runs dry during the process, or you'll have to start over. |
| Brakes Dragging/Overheating | Over-tightened adjustment or weak springs. | Back off the star-wheel adjuster a few clicks. Ensure the return springs are correctly installed and haven't lost their tension. |
| Leaking Fluid at Wheels | Banjo bolt not tight or old washers used. | Ensure you used new copper washers at the cylinder intake. Check for a cracked brake line. |
| Uneven Braking (Pulls to side) | One cylinder is stuck or shoes are greasy. | Ensure all cylinders are moving freely. If grease or oil gets on the new shoes, clean them with brake cleaner immediately or replace them. |
| Pedal Goes to Floor | Master cylinder failure or major leak. | If there are no visible leaks at the wheels, the internal seals of the master cylinder may be worn, failing to hold pressure. |
