🛠️ Installation Tips

  • Clean the Gasket Surface: Before installing the new head cover, use a plastic scraper to remove all traces of old gasket material. Avoid metal scrapers that can scratch the aluminum mating surface.

  • Check Valve Clearances: Since you are removing the head cover, this is the perfect time to inspect and adjust your valve lash. It will save you from having to do the job twice.

  • Torque Pattern: When tightening the head cover bolts, use a criss-cross (star) pattern to apply even pressure. This prevents the cover from warping and ensures a leak-free seal.

  • Inspect Manifold Clamps: When installing the new intake boot, ensure the metal clamps are positioned correctly. An over-tightened clamp can tear the new rubber, while a loose one will cause a vacuum leak.

  • Air Leak Test: After installation, start the engine and spray a tiny amount of carb cleaner around the intake boot. If the engine RPM changes, you have an air leak that needs sealing.

🔍 Troubleshooting Guide

Issue  Possible Cause  Solution
Erratic or High Idle Air leak at the Intake Manifold Boot. Inspect the boot for tiny cracks or loose clamps. A vacuum leak causes a "lean" condition, making the idle stay high.
Oil Seeping from Top Flattened or hardened cover gasket. Replace the head cover gasket. Over time, heat cycles make the rubber brittle, losing its ability to seal.
Engine "Popping" on Decel Lean mixture from cracked intake. When air enters through a crack in the manifold, it causes the engine to pop when you let off the throttle. Replace the boot immediately.
Difficulty Starting Vacuum loss or poor compression seal. If the intake boot is severely damaged, the engine cannot pull enough fuel from the carb. New seals restore the vacuum signal.
Tapping/Clicking Noise Loose valves or loose cover. Ensure the head cover is torqued to spec. If noise persists, adjust the valve clearance while the cover is off.
