š ļø Installation TipsĀ
-
Clean the Axle First: Before sliding the new hubs on, use a wire brush to clean the rust and debris off the rear axle splines. If the axle splines are badly rounded, a new hub will fail quickly.
-
The "Anti-Seize" Secret: Apply a thin layer of molybdenum grease or anti-seize to the splines. This prevents the hub from "welding" to the axle due to rust, making future tire or brake changes much easier.
-
Torque is Critical: Use a torque wrench to tighten the axle nut to factory specs. Under-tightening is the #1 cause of stripped hub splines. After your first ride, re-check the tightness.
-
Check the Washer: Ensure the flat washer and castle nut are in good condition. If the washer is crushed or missing, the hub won't seat properly against the axle shoulder.
-
New Cotter Pins: Always use fresh cotter pins (not included) to lock the castle nut. Never reuse an old, brittle pin on a moving part.
š Troubleshooting Guide
| IssueĀ | Possible CauseĀ | SolutionĀ |
| Engine Revs, Wheels Don't Move | Stripped internal hub splines. | Jack up the rear and watch the axle nut. If the nut/axle turns but the wheel doesn't, your hub splines are gone. Replace immediately. |
| Wobbling Rear Wheel | Loose axle nut or bent hub flange. | Ensure the axle nut is tight. If the nut is tight but the wheel still wobbles, the hub flange may be bent from a heavy side-impact. |
| "Clunking" when Shifting | Hub play on the axle. | This is an early sign of spline wear. If the hub can "rock" back and forth on the axle, itās time to replace the hubs before they ruin your expensive axle. |
| Wheel Nut Keeps Loosening | Damaged threads or missing washer. | Inspect the axle threads. If threads are fine, ensure you are using a proper hardened washer between the hub and the nut. |
| Hub Stuck on Axle | Severe rust or friction welding. | Use a hub puller and penetrating oil (like WD-40 Specialist). Do not hammer the axle directly, as this can damage the differential gears. |
